AU/OC History: Fate/Prototype is considered to be an AU of Fate/Stay Night formally, since the creator has no plans to make this series into its own show. Lancer in Fate/Prototype is essentially the same as Lancer in Fate/Stay Night except for his appearance and age, the latter serving to alter his personality a little bit from his updated self. Lancer in Fate/Prototype has the same general personality and has the same exact 'past', since both Lancer from FSN and Prototype have the same identity as the Irish hero of myth, Cu Chulainn. It's said that Lancer in Prototype is younger, more brash and is a bit more naive about the evils of the world because of that gap in age with his alternate self in Fate/Stay Night. He's still poorly motivated because of the nature of his master, but he still seems to have respect for her because she acts somewhat like his old teacher in his life, Scathach. Otherwise, his history is the same as Cu Chulainn's in Fate/Stay Night, so there is no disparaging his personality between that change-up.
In Fate/Prototype, it's also apparent that Lancer had fought in the previous Holy Grail War since he knew about Saber's previous master--though, it's clear that he and Saber didn't manage to get a match in that time before. Lancer's excitement about fighting powerful opponents has not changed whatsoever in comparison to his FSN counterpart.
His canon point will be shortly after Misaya summons him, but before she decides to seal his Noble Phantasm.
Game Import: N/A
Personality: Lancer is, essentially, a ruffian. At his current age(early 20s), he's immature and has a tendency to brush off the criticisms of others. While he's also somewhat optimistic, this is one of his worse points, as he's remarkedly known for having horrendous luck in his life. Though, Lancer doesn't seem to care about his bad luck. He's the sort of person who lives without regrets even though his life honestly stinks. Lancer's Fate/Stay Night counterpart is considered the 'older' Cu Chulainn, who understands the trauma of the world and knows what to expect in life, though the two of them aren't considered different. Lancer in Prototype simply hasn't lived out the war from the Tain Bo Cualigne and doesn't know much about his own true death. In Hollow/Ataraxia, a follow-up to Fate/Stay Night, Lancer is given a chance to talk about his own story and he manages to elaborate on a lot of traumatic parts of his life casually, brushing by them while making lapsing comments like 'That's how it goes'. He speaks in passing about his son who he was ordered to kill by his king casually, knowing he had no means of changing how things went.
Though, just because Lancer is honorable and loyal to his lord doesn't mean he's the type of person to bow simply. To Misaya, his master in Prototype, Lancer complains often and says 'What a pain', because he doesn't like being criticized by her, especially not after she seals his primary weapon to make things 'fair'. While he disagrees with her policies though, Lancer revels in the idea of a challenge and abides by it. When Saber makes comments about Lancer's master being an unlucky draw for him, Lancer brushes it off callously and comments that Saber had it worse. He's not the type to revel in his unlucky streaks or in his losses, instead acting surprisingly optimistic all things aside.
All his arrogant points aside, Lancer does act honorably. He hates running away from fights, he fights at handicaps readily and even offers kind words to his enemies. He's reputed as a man that no one could truly hate--as he acts courteously towards even his worst foes. He's also reportedly a womanizer in his legend, in that he seduces and is seduced by a number of women in the course of his story. He does eventually get married, but as Irish heroes go, the bonds of matrimony are rarely ever an indicator of chastity.
Powers: Lancer has: Super Strength Super Speed Superhuman Endurance/Durability Inhuman Dexterity The ability to use the Norse runes to use basic magic The ability to 'phase through' matter by turning into a spiritual body Resistance to Magic/Supernatural forces Gae Bolg (His Noble Phantasm, which reverses 'fate' to force the outcome of 'This Spear Will Penetrate The Enemy's Heart'.)
Other Details: Lancer will need a Master(power source) to survive. This is mostly my concern, should I be accepted into the game.
SAMPLES The maddening lack of feeling in his limbs was atrocious. The woman he loved stood over him with a morose expression, smiling sadly. There was grief in her expression, echoing the chorus that she was going to die in the morning. Scathach regarded Lancer with that grief, convinced that he would understand. No, she would not completely die, but her loss would amount to the same. She would be left immortal in her own lands, defeated and left as a testament that monsters didn't deserve their own territory. The woman who spat on the gods would earn her proper punishment at the hands of her own kin and to him, that was a sickening fate to be left to. Cu Chulainn pulled at his arms, but they did nothing for him. She let that smile dwindle before she knelt over him, pinching his nose.
"Don't give me such a haughty look. Even if all you can move is your eyes, I know how angry you are," She murmured to him, her demonic spear held over her shoulder. Scathach smacked the boy's cheek and stood back up, tossing a look over her shoulder as she turned to leave him. "You'll hurt yourself badly if you try to move with that potion coursing through your body right now. The pain would be the same as if you were killing yourself. So, do yourself a favor and let me fight without holding that grudge."
He wanted to spit on her for that. Scathach had always made him feel weak and inconsequential, but he could tell she was already assuming the role of the monster who needed to be felled. When she left him, he relaxed and strained. His limbs eventually ceased feeling dead and he could move his fingers. What felt like an hour crept by, but Cu Chulainn could feel the potion wearing off, "That damned woman..."
He felt his limbs solidify and he took steps, dragging himself up. He couldn't bother grabbing his armor. The least he could do was grab the first sword and spear in front of him before stumbling out the door. He didn't want to be a man who would let a woman he loved fall down into shame and misery because it was just 'fate'. The world wasn't so cruel as to demand such a thing of someone who had lost their might over snide comments. The Hound of Culann, renowned for his endless pride, dragged his feet along the battlegrounds until he reached the square. Two sister set to fight faced each other on a bridge over the country's greatest gorge. There was no audience to speak of--as the two were too terrifying to stay close to.
The arrogant Hound saw the smile on his teacher's face and scowled. She wasn't even remotely distressed, as if she were resigned to that outcome. So, he rushed in, intercepting the swing from her sister. Aife regarded him with a scowl and Scathach fell aside, crumbled from the volley of swings that she could not handle. This woman, his teacher's sister, wanted to shame her in a show of dominance. So, he clashed with her and snarled his frustration.
"Scathach! I don't want this small-teated waif to take over your grounds--so, I'll be disposing of her, myself!"
She couldn't say whether she was proud or not, but when he turned to look at her, it must have been the happiest the arrogant hound had ever seen his Master look since he met her.
