Applications

Application form:
APPLICATIONS ARE ALWAYS OPEN.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
Check the taken characters and the reserve page to ensure that your character isn't already taken.

We do accept nearly every type of character, including canon, minor, AU, game imports, OCs, fandom OCs, and so forth. There is one canon and one AU version of each character allowed. Especially minor characters may be evaluated as fandom OCs, but are appable under that distinction. Please remove the sections of the application that do not pertain to your character.

You can play up to five characters at one time. Two of those characters can be from the same canon. You may bring in two characters per calendar month, discounting rejections. If you wish to apply for a sixth character overall or a third canonmate, contact us individually.

App challenge policy is as follows: we will wait the length of the reserve for the original reserver to apply, and judge their application first, independently and not comparatively. Only if they are rejected will the challenger be assessed. Without a reserve, apps will be assessed in the order they are received-- again not against each other, but each one at a time.

We would prefer if you do not delete your comments upon rejection or acceptance. Simply ask us and we will screen the entire thread on request for privacy, no explanation necessary.

Applications are checked daily, and assigned to a mod who is best able to assess the application, either because of available time or because they know the fandom best. When necessary, the mods will discuss your application before coming to a decision. Please be patient and allow us time to check and discuss. Some apps will be approved almost immediately, while others may take a little longer. It's not because we don't care, but because we may be having trouble finding someone familiar with your canon, or simply that we're unexpectedly busy.

If you have any questions about the application process, feel free to contact the moderators directly or ask in the FAQ for clarification.

EXPLAINING THE FORM
PLAYER INFO
Player Name:
Preferred Contact Methods: If you would prefer these are kept private, let us know in your application and we will immediately screen your initial comment.
Other Characters:

CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Include (AU) if applicable.
Series:
Canon Point: If you are applying for the OU version of your character, please give a quick explanation of what point in canon your character will be coming from.
History Link: Please link to a canon source even if your character is an AU! Include a written history only if there isn’t a convenient wiki or other site that gives a good explanation of the canon.

AU/OC History: If you are applying for an AU version of the character, or an original character, please give a comprehensive description of what your AU or original universe are about and (in the case of an AU) what the differences are between the canon history and your AU. You should include something about what has happened recently before the character comes to the Lost Realm.

Game Import: If your character is being imported from another game, please identify the game and indicate what changes your character will display as a result of development in the game. It’s suggested that you include an overview of major events that have happened to them, and significant CR that they’ve made, but this doesn’t need to be terribly long.

Personality: We have no word count requirement on this, but it should be the bulk of your application.

Powers: This is mandatory for all characters, but does not need to be extensive. A list or bullet point would be fine.

Other Details: Anything else you think we should know.

SAMPLES
Please give at least one sample of the character you’re playing. These can be musebox or game threads, or can be written fresh for this application. If you are doing a game import, you should include a recent thread from the game. Your application samples should give a representative example of how you’ll be playing the character in this game. We prefer thread links, but will not penalize anyone for providing more standard written samples instead; if we feel we need more material to judge from, we'll ask.

Any Concerns: Anything you need to ask us? Let us know!

AU/OC History: N/A

Game Import: N/A

Personality:

Selfish, greedy, ruthless when it comes to money and a thief that’s more than willing to hide behind others and let them fight her battles for her; this is often the first impression of Nami, and honestly it’s not that far from the truth. She’s all of those things to some degree. After the murder of her adoptive mother and the taking over of her village by the pirate Arlong, Nami was offered a deal to buy her village back for 100 million beli, and so from the age of ten until she met Luffy and Zoro, Nami worked hard to make that money …by stealing it from every pirate she could find. She’s had an eight year career as a sneak thief, desperately trying to make the money to free her village, and she was very good at it. The day she met Luffy, she first tricked him into fighting the pirates chasing her while she got away, and then later in the same day sold Luffy out to the same pirates to use him as a distraction so she could steal a map. She’s quite friendly with Luffy until she learns he’s also a pirate, and after that she just considers him fair game – but when she realises her selfishness is going to get Luffy killed, she risks her neck to save his life. Shortly after that, she agrees to join Luffy’s crew (the Straw Hat pirates) as his navigator on a temporary basis.

It’s while with Luffy that she begins to forget the hardship that drives her and instead genuinely makes friends for the first time in her life. Her enjoyment, her smiles and laughter on the crew, are the first time since being a child that she’s felt this carefree, and she develops a great deal of fondness for Luffy, Zoro, and Usopp. They’re most likely the first friends she’s ever made, and for a while she gets so caught up in their adventures that she forgets the harsh deal with Arlong that she’s made at home. Eventually, when she sees Arlong’s wanted poster, she’s reminded of this fact, reminds herself that Luffy and the others are still pirates, and steals their ship and all the treasure on board, sailing back to Arlong Park in tears.

Nami is a very smart, street-savvy woman and is one of the most rational people in her canon, which makes her very bossy by nature, slightly violent in the manner of shounen heroines everywhere, and short-tempered and impatient with people being idiots in her presence. She’s attractive and she knows it, and often uses her looks and flirtatious ways to trick pirates into giving her what she needs or letting their guard down, and is quick to exploit anyone who seems taken in by her charms even in normal situations. She is very greedy when it comes to money and treasure, but she’s trying to make a hundred million, and Nami is very emphatic when she says that she only steals from pirates. (That won’t mean she doesn’t leap at the chance to obtain or make fast money elsewhere; when it comes to money, much of her common sense goes out the window.)

She’s harsh when it comes to dealing with others and their faults and has no time for the self pity of others, believing strongly that if one just keeps moving forward, if one just keeps smiling, then eventually good things will come your way… and so to wallow in self pity or to throw your life away in despair is a weakness she has no time for. However, at this stage in her canon, she believes that relying on others is the same sort of weakness, and Nami tries to deal with her own problems on her own, never asking for another’s assistance; friends are a luxury, and maybe one day when she’s finally free of Arlong, she’ll go back to see the Straw Hats and see if they’re still mad at her and then maybe they’ll sail again… this is what she tells herself, but she doesn’t once stop to think that she could have asked her new friends for help. It isn’t their business, they’re pirates besides, and she both relies on herself and believes she’s strong enough to do it all on her own.

She hasn’t informed the villagers of the deal she made either, preferring to let them believe she’s betrayed them. “I’ll do it all myself.” Part of this is her terror that someone else may get hurt on her behalf—seeing Bellemere die in front of her, and Genzo be grievously injured in trying to rescue her from Arlong, are two events that have scarred her greatly. (Later in canon when the Straw Hats do follow her back to Arlong, she’s angry with them for interfering, even when it’s clear they’re not just there to take their ship back—their concern and their desire to help just makes her upset that they’ll mess things up, or that they’ll get killed, and the concept that they care enough about her to interfere is one she’s unused to and she can’t handle it. It’s only when she has a full mental breakdown and things are well out of her control that she breaks and asks Luffy for help; this hasn’t happened at her canon point, but it’s a clear indication of her state of mind beforehand. It’s also a mark of how much she’s come to care for them, because if she still thought of them as mere pirates to be exploited, she wouldn’t have tried so hard to get them all off the island safely.)

She’s highly manipulative, both with the people she steals from and the Arlong pirates, letting them believe she’s hardened and callous and with them for the money, though Arlong of course knows better. She can carry a bluff frighteningly well, capable of seeming like a cold-blooded killer who’ll smile as she stabs you—but Nami is no killer, and can’t stand to see anyone die in front of her. And she’ll do whatever it takes, at whatever cost to herself, to keep people from being hurt because of her. Burning her hands to stop Luffy getting shot; stabbing herself in the hand in order to effectively pretend she stabbed Usopp; these are things Nami is capable of and will do so again for people who manage to cross the walls she’s put up and call themselves her friends – her nakama.

When it gets right down to it, the outer façade of Nami is all bitch: all greed, all manipulation, all heartless betrayal and abandonment, all while smiling cheerfully at you as she robs you blind. It’s all for the money. It doesn’t matter what other people think of her, does it? The freedom of her village is her goal, and Nami lives for the day when she can be free to pursue her own dream of making a map of the world, and she can “finally smile for real.” She’s vulnerable and she hurts, but she understands that and she constantly moves forward, never letting herself give up, and it says a great deal that even though her life and livelihood are chained to Arlong and his pirates, even though the entirety of her teenage years has been spent being treated like a practical slave by the fishman who killed her mother, she’s still looking toward the future and her dreams of freedom are ambitious and sweet.

The fact that she’s still capable of doing this—the fact she was capable of striking such a deal with Arlong in the first place despite her losses—shows that Nami has the emotional strength of a mountain. She’ll break at times, but she always gets right back up and keeps going. No matter what.

Powers:

None. Though I’ll make mention that she has her normal three piece staff at this point in canon and not the climatact she has later.
She does have an incredibly uncanny sense of the weather, but in an underground city I’m not sure how much help that would really be to her. I guess something to keep in mind if anything wacky happens to the atmosphere…?

She had a dear mun post a couple of weeks ago here:

http://dear-mun.dreamwidth.org/3760349.html

There are three separate threads on there. If that’s not enough, though, or you don’t think it gives a good picture, let me know and I’ll type up a sample!

Any Concerns:

None so far /o/
