CITY GATES
The South Gate is the main entrance into the city and leads up to the surface, so all the new refugees come in that entrance when they first arrive. It is by far the largest gate in the city, as it is the most frequently used. The East and West Gates are of a similar size and function. As there is no well-traveled roads leading out of the East and West Gates, it's mostly used by explorers and adventurous types who are capable of fighting off the subterranean monsters living outside the city walls.

Teyn Lock is very small and leads to the the craggy shore of the Teyn. However, cave-dwelling water monsters tend to come ashore there to snap up people so it’s not frequently used except by adventurers.

The King's Gate is by far the smallest of the gates, and used by almost no one. King’s Gate used to be the king’s exclusive entrance when there was one, but now it’s just inconvenient because you still have to pass through government checks to go through it due to it leading directly to the governmental offices district. However those with significant power or friends in high places can skate through the gate quicker than most.

GOVERNMENT OFFICES
The newcomers' assigned housing can be found in this district, however the natives view it as a place of business and politics primarily, and typically don't build living spaces there.

The two largest buildings in this district are the hospital and the Council building, but there are many other smaller offices such as the secretariat building which houses the PR chair and the newcomer liaison, the police station, a library, and others.

There is also a chancery for each of the organizations that hold a seat in the Council for long-term negotiations, though they are frequently empty.

QUEEN'S RUN
Queen's Run is the upper class neighborhood. Traditionally where members of the Royal Family that did not reside in the palace lived, but now it's where government officials and other natives with enough money and influence live.

FROGTOWN
Primarily inhabited by Huglu, it is the district with the most waterfront property. It's not uncommon for this district to have ankle-high water through the streets or houses with flooded basements.

Reasonably priced, though not spacious, housing is common here if you don't mind the frog neighbors and the regular flooding.

THE STEPS
The Steps has the highest elevation of all of the districts and is mostly populated by the Chocolina. Many of the houses in this district are built into the walls of the cave, or on tiers, so you can often see Chocolina taking off from their porches and flying across the city. They aren’t numerous enough to fully populate this area, and a number of other citizens of many races also live in this area closer to ground level, but the Chocolina alone make up about half of the population of the district.

GNOMISH DISTRICT
This part of the city was mostly destroyed in the move, and as such, the Gnomes moved in because they could make homes out of collapsed buildings and rubble due to their tiny size. Slowly, this part of the city is being rebuilt and other races are moving in, though it's common for residents of this district to have Gnomes living in their basements or in the lot next door.

THE TEYN
The Teyn is the underground fresh water reservoir that the city is built next to, commonly referred to as a lake despite the inaccuracy. The part within the city walls is kept largely clean and safe by the Huglu though most of the Teyn is populated by monsters that won't hesitate to turn people who wander too close to their territory into their next meal.

It is a large and expansive lake, with small settlements along its banks as you sail up it. While the water is very still due to the relative lack of weather conditions underground, it also means that there is no wind to push sails along, and boats are either powered by oars or engines, which are fairly expensive.

MARKETPLACE
The marketplace is a series of caverns with various shops strewn throughout. The area is surrounded by water so that boats can be used to deliver goods from around the city, and linked to the rest of Darstone with stone bridges. It's rather large, and nearly anything a resident or newcomer could need can be found there - including things from different universes occasionally, though they'll be sold at a higher price of course.

The marketplace is also a popular meeting place due to its central location, containing the majority of the city's cafes, restaurants, and bars, which are open at different times of the day.

CRAFTER'S DISTRICT
Home of the city's artisans and craftsmen, if you can't find what you're looking for in the Market District, this is the place to go to have something made to order. The streets are lined with small boutiques, art galleries, and workshops, and many of the proprietors live above their shops. Magical items can also be commissioned, if you have the funds. Having something made special is much more expensive, but if you're looking for something unique or special, or which can only be found back home, you might want to see if someone here has the skills necessary to create it.

DOCKS DISTRICT
The city's warehouses and distribution centres are here. Though the city is now underground, it's not completely self-sufficient. Underground farms and mines exist along the shores of the Teyn and shipments of vital foodstuffs and materials come along the underground rivers to be stored and distributed to Darstone's population. There's a constant traffic of barges criss-crossing the Teyn, taking materials to and from the warehouses, the Market district, and the Industrial district. A large number of Huglu work in this area.

INDUSTRIAL DISTRICT
Factories abound here, taking the raw materials gathered from deep in the caves and turning them into all of the mass-produced items that Darstone needs. Though both magic and technology are used to produce the products, there is a haze of smoke hanging over this area, and the shafts that lead up through the mountain to the open air are not always enough to keep the air clean. Though the working conditions aren't always ideal, the factories here are always in need of workers to run the assembly lines.

SOUTH DISTRICT
Due to its location next to the south gate, this is often where refugees first settle in the city. As a result it has become the poorest district, and is where the cheapest housing can be found. Characters attempting to move out of the government apartment building will be able to move here the quickest, but will have to contend with a higher crime rate and less luxurious accommodations alongside a messy hodgepodge of neighbors.
