Applications

Application form:
APPLICATIONS ARE ALWAYS OPEN.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
Check the taken characters and the reserve page to ensure that your character isn't already taken.

We do accept nearly every type of character, including canon, minor, AU, game imports, OCs, fandom OCs, and so forth. There is one canon and one AU version of each character allowed. Especially minor characters may be evaluated as fandom OCs, but are appable under that distinction. Please remove the sections of the application that do not pertain to your character.

You can play up to five characters at one time. Two of those characters can be from the same canon. You may bring in two characters per calendar month, discounting rejections. If you wish to apply for a sixth character overall or a third canonmate, contact us individually.

App challenge policy is as follows: we will wait the length of the reserve for the original reserver to apply, and judge their application first, independently and not comparatively. Only if they are rejected will the challenger be assessed. Without a reserve, apps will be assessed in the order they are received-- again not against each other, but each one at a time.

We would prefer if you do not delete your comments upon rejection or acceptance. Simply ask us and we will screen the entire thread on request for privacy, no explanation necessary.

Applications are checked daily, and assigned to a mod who is best able to assess the application, either because of available time or because they know the fandom best. When necessary, the mods will discuss your application before coming to a decision. Please be patient and allow us time to check and discuss. Some apps will be approved almost immediately, while others may take a little longer. It's not because we don't care, but because we may be having trouble finding someone familiar with your canon, or simply that we're unexpectedly busy.

If you have any questions about the application process, feel free to contact the moderators directly or ask in the FAQ for clarification.

EXPLAINING THE FORM
PLAYER INFO
Player Name:
Preferred Contact Methods: If you would prefer these are kept private, let us know in your application and we will immediately screen your initial comment.
Other Characters:

CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Include (AU) if applicable.
Series:
Canon Point: If you are applying for the OU version of your character, please give a quick explanation of what point in canon your character will be coming from.
History Link: Please link to a canon source even if your character is an AU! Include a written history only if there isn’t a convenient wiki or other site that gives a good explanation of the canon.

AU/OC History: If you are applying for an AU version of the character, or an original character, please give a comprehensive description of what your AU or original universe are about and (in the case of an AU) what the differences are between the canon history and your AU. You should include something about what has happened recently before the character comes to the Lost Realm.

Game Import: If your character is being imported from another game, please identify the game and indicate what changes your character will display as a result of development in the game. It’s suggested that you include an overview of major events that have happened to them, and significant CR that they’ve made, but this doesn’t need to be terribly long.

Personality: We have no word count requirement on this, but it should be the bulk of your application.

Powers: This is mandatory for all characters, but does not need to be extensive. A list or bullet point would be fine.

Other Details: Anything else you think we should know.

SAMPLES
Please give at least one sample of the character you’re playing. These can be musebox or game threads, or can be written fresh for this application. If you are doing a game import, you should include a recent thread from the game. Your application samples should give a representative example of how you’ll be playing the character in this game. We prefer thread links, but will not penalize anyone for providing more standard written samples instead; if we feel we need more material to judge from, we'll ask.

Any Concerns: Anything you need to ask us? Let us know!

CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Eddward (Edd, or "Double D")
Series: Ed Edd 'n Eddy
History Link: http://ed.wikia.com/wiki/Edd

Personality: Calm and mild mannered Eddward (or just Double D, as he is regularly known by). The middle man, a rather polite, kind and intelligent individual with a strong moral center...unlike the entire world around him. Having befriended a couple of buffoons who would soon become his lifelong friends, the loss of them both due to dimensional doohickies might put a slight strain on his normally quiet demeanor (new friendships can only patch it up so far). A highly intelligent person even by his age, Edd has been known to construct devices out of common household appliances and spare parts which work...more often than not, actually. Many think how good of an inventor might be were he to get ahold of some real parts...

He is also well read and quite colorful in the English language and some many other random cultural elements.

Like his three compatriots, Edd has a great affiliation for comically oversized candies, conspiring against his wishes for a sugary treat. It almost always backfires, temptation being the naughty wench she is.

Despite being a very lighthearted individual in a very lighthearted (if somewhat silly) world, Edd has shown more complex aspects of himself. For example, there was a time when all of the Eds (Ed, Edd, and Eddy) were dared into swapping their personalities. Not with magic doohickies, not through plot device, just through a dare. Dared to act as the dumbest of the trio, Ed (single D, single eyebrow) acted almost indistinguishible from Ed. Although they seemed to be fooled only due to the lightheartedness of the show's tone, his act as Ed was almost spot on, spouting non-sequitors and mimicking his speech pattern. A distinct note, however, was this exchange--

Eddy (as Edd): "Hey Ed, let's make faces behind Eddy's back!"

Edd (as Ed): "Like we always do?"

Eddy (as Edd): "AHA! I KNEW IT!"

Edd (as Ed): *in his normal voice* "You're so gullible, Eddy."

Edd certainly knows more about people close to him then he ever lets on. This will crop up a few times below.

During a certain (and only) finale, the latest point in what we know of the Eds, it certainly took the "darker and grittier" path as things can get for a normally carefree childhood. Finally kicked out of their hometown proper after an epic scam gone wrong, Edd's relationship is strained with his cohorts to their upmost limit. Fed up with all of their idiocy after his friends faked drowning in a pool of quicksand in a swamp, he lets them both know what exactly he thinks of them--as a couple of nimrods who just aren't worth his friendship or even his attention and he storms off.

Eddy soon apologized sincerely for this. And, for the first time ever, we see that Edd indeed realizes that Eddy, despite his flaws, takes their friendship seriously. It sealed the deal for them as far as their journey was concerned. Cornered by his evil brother, Eddy is defended by Edd and Ed, who know that Eddy is more than just a scam factory and epic tragedy waiting to happen again and again. And in the end, they won.

There was a time wherein a friend of the Eds was having a little trouble adjusting to the Western world called "North America" (it was Rolf having a bit of a breakdown, really) and, while it was made to set up a scam to get his money (as usual), Eddward showed a remarkable attention to detail towards making the junkyard of an are to resemble the podunk, third world country of a place that could be called "The Old Country" (wherever the heck that is!

Another big, unambiguously good trait of Edd is his ability to forgive and accept those he would call his friends. Even if they do something horrendously stupid. A lot. He just will. Not. Give up.

As simple as he seems, Eddward also seems to have a greater darkside to himself that even he isn't aware of. During a certain "incident" with a supposedly magic boomerang,

Nonetheless, Edd has his flaws like anyone else. He can be quite nervous at times, as per usual for a young kid such as himself. He is polite to a fault, having been brought up on a strict regimen by his parents--while he himself is fine with this, many may find it a tad off. A weakling at heart, it would take quite a bit of motivation to spur him to courageous acts--something which can only be provided by companions as no monetary gain seems to interest him beyond his current needs. "Illogical" thinking can send him on a tangent quite easily, especially if he begins to stereotype his own friends depending on their own level of intelligence. Finally, he seems to be almost OCD about how he organizes things.

Do not be surprised if he flips out over something.

During his school time, Edd is known for having straight A's on his report cards. No surprise there. But a single step, a single goof, has led many others to believe he has become an idiot. Not so wrong at first, but it is another blow to his self esteem. Eddward has lived his entire life under his rather overbearing mother and father, learning to be polite, study hard, organize EVERYTHING, and most of all, be the perfect kid one could be. And this latest turn of events, while silly at first, only drive this point home harder into his mind. He snaps out of it soon enough, luckily.

If Edd ever develops a problem with his friends--inevitable, really--he will usually bring it up with them, but not to the extent as to how he feels. During school, Eddy had found someone had written "Eddy is a no-neck chump" above one of the water fountains. Through the course of this venture, new insults were written on the wall as Eddy changed himself to fit in. During the last few moments, Edd somberly looks at the original writing, conveying to anyone watching that he was indeed the one who had written the graffiti in the first place. This comes to a head in their biggest venture, as shown above.

Edd's little lack of courage is something of a sour point with him. Mostly shown in the finale, wherein he overcomes it, but it is sparsly stewn about in other instances (such as anything pertaining to "dodgeball", wherein he will completely lose it when threatened).

SAMPLES

http://bakerstreet.dreamwidth.org/316657.html?thread=237117169#cmt237117169

^^^^^This one didn't go anywhere, but it's a good sampling of the uses Eddward could provide in a little dungeon crawling.

http://bakerstreet.dreamwidth.org/300968.html?thread=226048680#cmt226048680

^^^^A little bit of how Edd talks to others. Specifically, when asked a question. Above all else, Edd is comprehensive. It's practically his middle name (it isn't--his middle name is Marion--but you get what I mean).

Here's an additional 2 samples, written with original "memes" so to speak:

"Letter sending meme" (Gienko's note: I had a pen pal when I was in school. She wasn't Japanese, but....don't think this is too weird.)

[His handwriting is pertinant, all of his lowercase I's are dotted, his grammar perfect. The pen strokes are light, but certain.]

Dear Moka Akashiya,

Pardon for not writing your name down correctly...I was still learning how to read it. I can, however, pronounce it perfectly now! If you were here, I am positive you would be able to tell! You yourself are quite fluent in your English studies. You even corrected me on "my" spelling of the world "definite", which is a common mishap for everyone in my country.

I am also happy you took the first letter in stride. My friends can be...immature at times. I earnestly don't think they meant any harm, even if they continually accused the two of us as being, er, "In love". Frankly, I am too young to understand the term, but am certain you are a fairly upstanding individual.

I noticed you mentioned you didn't enjoy swimming...I don't blame you at all. I myself have had...a few advances into the water I really don't like talking about.

Just yesterday, I built yet another one of my inventions. It was an opera singing machine, a sort of prototype if you must. Accursed as being my first foray into such a field, it ended up working too well for its own good and produced the most horrid sound I could ever fathom. Not like the rocket, or the go kart, or the volcano project I did some time ago. This was very much something that I did well, but did not quite capture the spirit of the design. In simpler terms, it was well built, I just didn't have the right idea.

Next week, we're supposed to send pictures of each other. I'm quite embarrased, actually! I will be sure to wear my very best for the photo!

And then in six weeks, you'll all be coming over here. The place you will be staying, as I imagine you have already been told, is nearby where I live, actually! A couple of miles (a kilometers, I should say--my use of the Imperial System can be quite embarrassing, I'm afraid) from my very neighborhood, as a matter of fact. Let me know if you ever plan to visit

Sincerely,

Eddward

[Not long after writing this letter, a certain unibrowed moron and three haired delinquent got ahold of it and drew stick figures of Edd holding hands with cheery looking, apparently Japanese girl, had bitten off one of the corners, and scribbled out several of Edd's more complex words and had written "I am suparh smurt!" on it. Many, many hearts were also drawn on it. The yelling that came afterwards when Edd knew of the deed was almost of legend. And, for their education level, kind of hard to understand.]

"Psychiatric" meme:

[Thinks "Here it was. Cheer up, good fellow! This man here is going to help you. He's going to...well, not exactly "be" your friend, but he will be courteous enough to show you dignity and compassion! Or, that's too strong a word..."]

*gulp*

["Okay, you're in the chair. Remember, smile!"]

H-h-hi, my n-n-name is....

Aziraphale's post:

Eddward.

[A child? Oh, well, everyone else on the planet was a child compared to him as far as age was concerned, so how would this be any different? Tally ho!]

Edd's post:

[He nods, nervously. He was sweating quite a bit. Never had his hat seemed so tight on his head before. He thinks: "There we go, Eddward! You're doing fine! J-just remember, keep a stiff upper lip! Don't hestitate!"

Eddward, is, obviously, still a child. His reaction is not out of the ordinary.]

^^^^Shows that embarrassed side of Edd.

There was also a post I was doing (as Kurumu Kurono, natch) wherein he was involved--never named, but clearly involved him--but he did no talking. His involvement in the post was "used as blunt object in an attempt to hit a small witch like she was a mole from an arcade game". It was pretty....well, I see "cracky" a little different than most people, but it was still fun. I personally think it goes back to his original portrayals, and has a rather serious implication...That is, Edd can be usually found getting caught in the middle of someone else's shenanigans (or, more serious in tone, "plot"). And 99% of the time, it's unwilling. Yet he always manages to come out ok in the end with a little brain thinking...or people just letting him off just because they know him well enough (go figure). I didn't put it there because I wasn't posting as Edd, he was just kind of a minor detail.

(Let me know if I should post the link to that, anyway. I can find it pretty quickly. It's fun to read. ^_^)

Any Concerns: Am I the only one who noticed the parallels between the Ed Edd 'n Eddy movie and the Wizard of Oz? It's uncanny.

Other Details: While Edd would find the idea of a lost realm absolutely absurd and would initially believe it a dream, he will come to realize it as fact soon enough when suitable evidence shows itself (a good pinch will also do the trick). While we never see him use a computer proper, there's little doubt he knows how to operate one amongst other sorts of contemporary machinery or otherwise. Having met unlikely friends back where he's from in the most unlikely of way, meeting newer friends in an even weirder situation will be a small step up from what he's used to. Just don't expect him to do any heavy lifting. Not everybody has to fight.

Note to Moderator: Sorry for making it so short before. I guess I took "no word requirement" a weeeee little too literally in the first app. XD I don't intend to make this (too) cracky, as per your reply. Also, I didn't realize til too late, but I didn't bold the headings and format it correctly after you mentioned it. I did it in the app, but...my computer undoes that sometimes. Despite knowing that, I totally forgot(I was a tad hasty in my excitement). I also would like you to know I take this seriously, so sorry I didn't show it at first. The next app I make will be even better than this. Count on it.

(Also, I'm pointing this out early, but Colette is from Tales of Symphonia, NOT Vesperia. Your reserves list is a little imperfect in that regard. XD)
