The idea being, if a copy of this software ended up in the hands of BOTH corporations, they could duke it out and potentially weaken their own positions while he gets to work on biggering his own business (ha ha).
Delicious corporate espionage.
This, of course, is entirely dependent upon whether or not anyone interested in accomplishing this quest minds making some powerful enemies while the Once-ler reaps some benefits for himself in the background.

What I'd suggest you do is do an OOC plotting post once the game gets into gear, and recruit some players who want to join in on the plot. The ones who accomplish the quest itself can get the IC reward, but the accomplishment of the quest will be such that it'll spawn more quests because of how it happened.

Suggested Reward: Dragon reagents (scales, claws, blood) and/or an enchanted weapon crafted by Martin, and his gratitude
Task Description: No one knows how (or from where it came) but a dragon has been discovered stuck inside a mine near the underground river. Dock workers want it out as soon as possible—it's interfering with their work, you see—while crafters will pay a pretty penny for its blood, bones or scales—because it's a dragon, and dragons are magical in nature.
Of course, you will have to fight. A dragon. It's no easy feat, and there's rumors that the dragon isn't all what it appears to be...
(Martin senses something amiss, flees to a mine, discovers he can still turn into a dragon, and gets stuck in a cave. I thought this would be a good opportunity for CR, as well as some rare ingredients—Martin wouldn't be adverse to shaving off a couple of scales or cutting off some claws or donating some dragon blood, if someone needs them...)

Idea 2
Quest Title: Down to Deepground
Suggested Reward: Whatever artifacts they can bring back on the first trip can be sold(??? idk I'm less sure here)
Background: While gnomes are not native to the caves below the mountains where Darstone now rests, they have always been attracted to shiny things. There are very many shiny things in the mountain's cavern systems, and thus centuries before the city was sunk, various groups of gnomes were venturing down into the caverns and bringing back gems of untold riches to the city of Darstone, sometimes presenting them to the old royal family. Sometimes, whole communities and village were constructed in the cavern systems to serve as staging grounds for these sort of exploration and mining expeditions.
By far the most famous, and oldest, of these is long lost both to anything beyond myth. This is the mythical settlement of Deepground, the so-called Heart of the Mountain. The city was, according to legend, founded wel over a thousand years ago and constructed around a truly massive crystal, said to be larger even than a full grown dragon. The gnomes who lived in Deepground were so entranced by the crystal, the stories say, that they eventually simply stopped coming up to the surface. In time, this city was lost.
Task Description: Recently, a crystal tablet was discovered in lower cavern than the one Darstone rests in. They tablet hints at the location of the mythical Deepground. However, the directions are vague at best, and many people think that it's either a hoax or misunderstood. As a result, there's no money being supplied to mount a proper expedition. Instead, intrepid adventurers among the imported population are being asked to scout it out.
I DON'T KNOW HOW TO NOT BE VERBOSE- I think for best results with this sort of quest the tablet shouldn't lead to Deepground but to some other former gnomish staging ground settlement so that Deepground itself could be referenced later. This settlement could either be abandoned, in which case people can haul out artifacts, or it could have a colony of Gnomes Gone Native or somethingDEEP GNOMES... DARK GNOMES????The idea wouldn't leave my head okay... okay...

Description: A group of young and rebellious gnomish youths have been causing problems in the Gnomish District since the recent political problems. They aren't bad kids, but their acts of vadalism and thuggery have frustrated the community enough that they no longer want to deal with them and the local police force is taxed with more important concerns, so they are seeking PCs to curve these youths back towards being proper members of society (methods PCs use are up to them)
Any Scheduling Concerns: Probably better for November after the current plots
